Badgers Cricket Club – What’s New Archive 2015

This page provides a repository of all the What’s New entries for 2015, in reverse chronological order. If you really have a desire for the older or newer entries, then the links below will get you access to all those that I’ve saved. They are unlikely to be of any great interest, but do provide a picture of how the site has developed over the twenty-four years it has been here. Please bear in mind that links to external sites may have atrophied over time and thus you may see ‘not found’ or similar errors when trying to follow them, especially the further back in time the link was first created.

Another season is done and dusted and before the Badger settled down for its winter hibernation a small but almost complete group of the current playing members and their families spent an evening celebrating the season just gone. Details of who won what can be found on the news page, along with a brief report of proceedings, and the Hall Of Fame Trophy winners page has been updated accordingly. The season report for 2015 is now complete and official, and all of the other pages have been updated with the 2015 figures, including all decade by decade averages pages, the personal pages and the individual records page.

For those that prefer paper copies of these things, and didn’t manage to acquire the copy from their table at the dinner last Saturday, I have also uploaded the ‘for print’ version of the 2015 season report ready to be downloaded and printed. You’ll need a suitable program to view or print the PDF file but Abode Reader, which may already be installed on the system you are using, is available as a free download (from the Adobe web site), and there are other free alternatives including Foxit Reader and Sumatra PDF.

Absent any important news or surprise site updates things will go quiet now until the announcement of either the AGM or indoor nets in the new year. See you then.

13 Nov 2015

The annual presentation dinner is less than 24 hours away and hopefully I will see a goodly proportion of you there.

No thank yous this year, since I did all of the scorecard checking myself either visually or using code, and those efforts mean that you can now find historical results for 2015 along with a partial season report plus the personal pages have been updated with all the 2015 performances and partnerships. The season report and personal pages will be updated further once the destination of the various cups has been revealed at the dinner, at which point the full details will also be made available on the decade by decade average pages.

For the record the changes made as a result of the checking can be found on the Statistical Sett page.

Next update obviously won’t be until after the dinner, when I will publish the full season report and any other changes that are being held back until after the trophies have been presented.

8 Nov 2015

A variety of factors – including problems with a number of the scorecards from the last month of the season, the Rugby World Cup, and most significantly, technical problems with the virtual machine running the Badgers database, which ended up having to be rebuilt from scratch before I could get things working again – have resulted in things going quiet here. Having finally got everything sorted out the site now has the usual summarised details of September’s games on the results page along with statistical notes only match reports and the pertinent elements from the scorecards.

Next order of business, once I have finished all of the cross-checking of the data, will be a partial season report and end of season updates to most of the pages here, which I hope to get posted in the next week (prior to the dinner on November 14th).

Those that have been paying attention will realise that the previous update never actually made it out onto the public version of the web site, due to the issues with the database forestalling the writing of statistical notes, but I was too lazy to expunge it.

4 Sep 2015

The twenty-ninth meeting with second oldest rival Blindley Heath saw the sixteenth drawn contest. The usual summarised details of the game can be found on the results page along with a statistical notes only match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

29 Aug 2015

Our first visit to Deando in thirteen seasons looked like it might end up being a washout, but the game started within half an hour of the scheduled time and a close, albeit low-scoring, affair ensued which saw the Badgers lose for the first time in more than three months. The usual summarised details of the game can be found on the results page along with a statistical notes only match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

19 Aug 2015

We have a change of opposition for this coming Sunday, with Deando Ruxley stepping in to fill the gap when West End (Esher) were unable to put a side out. The fixtures page has been updated accordingly, with a map link and directions, as has the Google Map with the locations of our 2015 opposition.

16 Aug 2015

Sadly we were unable to scrape together a team for this week, and thus did not attempt to get a fixture to fill the gap in the schedule. Last Sunday the sunny weather continued and the Badgers recorded another successful run chase on a lovely evening in Ripley. The usual summarised details of the game can be found on the results page along with a statistical notes only match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

8 Aug 2015

Last Sunday saw the Badgers record another win batting second, defeating Horley for the first time in four attempts. The usual summarised details of the game can be found on the results page along with a full match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

3 Aug 2015

Another win on Sunday at Horley, but rather than hold things up further waiting for that game to be processed I am uploading the past month’s worth of data instead. Hopefully another update will follow later in the week.

Barring a close fought draw at Oxted the Badgers have been on something of a tear recently and successful run chases at Wallington and Ottershaw were followed up by a low scoring win in the Friday game on tour, which was reduced to 25 overs per side because of the rain which continued to fall throughout the afternoon. The usual summarised details of the games can be found on the results page along with statistical notes only match reports and the pertinent elements from the scorecards.

24 Jul 2015

Rather belatedly I have just realised that the Cheshire Tour matches had never been added to the fixtures page and that oversight is now fixed. Still no match related updates here, I’m sorry to say, but you can find all of the season’s results on our Play-Cricket site and the Tour games will appear there too after each match (assuming that the hotel wifi is up to the task).

18 Jul 2015

Another incomplete update – we left on our family holiday just eight hours after the Ottershaw game finished and cricket has not yet come to the top of the ‘to do’ pile since getting back – to report that we did not play last Sunday or Wednesday but recorded another good win in that visit to Ottershaw. The results have been entered on Play-Cricket but I have still not finished processing the Ottershaw scorecard and nor have I managed to update the pages here to include the Wallington game.

More importantly than that I would also like to flag up a change of venue for tomorrow’s game, at least as far as the fixtures page here is concerned, which will be played on Oxted’s main ground at Master Park, rather than the old Limpsfield ground. Also, for those of you not on the email distribution, it is the Oxted Beer Festival this weekend so you may have some fun and games with parking.

1 Jul 2015

Rather than delay this update further by waiting until I’ve added Sunday’s win at Wallington, I’m posting this now to at least get us up to the week before prior to heading off to the Oval to watch Surrey take on Gloucestershire (there are still tickets available if you contact the skipper).

Three good wins to report this time, all successful run chases, at Roehampton, Leigh and Tadworth. The usual summarised details of the games can be found on the results page along with statistical notes only match reports and the pertinent elements from the scorecards.

13 Jun 2015

My apologies, but I thought I’d uploaded this update in the week after the Leatherhead rain off, but a recent visit to the public site made it apparent that I had failed to do so. Hopefully another update will follow soon but you can always find up to date information on results and fixtures on our Play-Cricket site.

Prior to the rained out game at Leatherhead, our first loss of the season came at the hands of longstanding opponents Stoke d'Abernon, with the Badgers fielding only ten men for the third time this year, but a full eleven for the first time did the trick against eleventh hour stand-in opposition at Whiteley Village. The usual summarised details of the games can be found on the results page along with a statistical notes only match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecards.

23 May 2015

Sadly we had a cry off from this week’s scheduled opponents Dormansland at ten past nine last night but I have managed to arrange an alternative fixture with Whiteley Village CC. I may find time to add links and fixture page changes, but for now this is it.

17 May 2015

The new season got underway, after the first game on the slate was cancelled due to our inability to field a side (although we wouldn’t have played anyway since Beechwood’s replacement fixture was called off due to the weather), with an entertaining draw against Weybridge Vandals and a good run chase to snatch the victory on Ham Common. The usual summarised details of the games can be found on the results page along with a full match report for Weybridge and the pertinent elements from the scorecards. Hopefully a match report of some sort for the Ham & Petersham game will follow at some point.

Over the course of the last few months I have gradually found just about enough time to finish off the addition of full information for 1985. That means that there is now a season report, scorecards, more comprehensive historical results, complete full batting, full bowling and miscellaneous statistics tables and a list of best performances plus concomitant updates to the personal pages.

The inevitable discrepancies were found between the newly entered data and that already published, the gory details of which can be found on the newly instituted Statistical Sett page which will be the new home of such detailed trivia from now on, to avoid cluttering up this section with a load of verbiage that very few (if any) actually bother to read.

It is probably worth pointing out at this point that the site rollover to a new season and the addition of an historical season both entail lots of updates under the covers. Whilst I have tried to check as much as possible prior to upload, if you see anything that looks amiss then please let me know so that I can fix it.

21 Apr 2015

Bad news folks, we have been unable to raise a team for this coming Sunday’s fixture with Beechwood so I have been forced to cry off and give them as much time as possible to arrange an alternative opponent.

18 Apr 2015

Once again this update really ought to have appeared more quickly after the AGM so some of what it reports is rather belated. The most out-dated of the news page entries is the information on indoor nets, which finish this coming Thursday, but there is also a summary report of the AGM for those that weren’t there (or for those that were and cannot remember that far back). The fixtures page has also been updated, with the fixture list distributed at the AGM and updated a couple of times since, replete with map links, and I’ve created the now usual Google map with the locations of our 2015 opposition.

The first game of the season is just over a week away, and it looks like we may be shy of players, so please let me know your availability as soon as you can, although hopefully I will be able to collect much of the missing information tomorrow at the pre-season BBQ at Mark’s. Oh, and there will be another update along soon, hopefully before the new season starts, with the full details for the 1985 season which I have just finished cross-checking and finalising. Watch this space, as they say.

1 Feb 2015

Terribly remiss of me not to update the site sooner, but the AGM will be held tomorrow night. You should all have received an email from Chairman Allan Butt with details of the occasion. As belt and braces I’ve added an item to the news page with a summary of the arrangements.
