Badgers Cricket Club – Clubhouse

Being a wandering side we don’t have a real bricks and mortar clubhouse in which to post notices, press clippings, photos or any of the other memorabilia that you’d expect to see in a cricket clubhouse so I thought I’d start this virtual clubhouse page as an alternative.

I have some (probably grossly unrealistic and infeasible) grandiose ideas for what might end up here, including old press cuttings, scans of the scorebook pages for outstanding performances (Brian Moore’s ten for two would be a good place to start, I guess), photographs of past teams in all their glory, and links to the other areas of the site that contain items that you might expect to see on the clubhouse walls. In other words, a one-stop shop for all the information that you’d really like to see on a cricket club web site.

Whether or not all of that will come to pass is a moot point at the moment, but for the time being take a look at what we do have here via the quick links in the section below.

Players Wanted

A variant of the following poster was sent out to all members with the 2000 AGM notice, and it is still applicable as we head towards the 2023 season. Since I don’t think I can say it better than Alan Tickner did back then, I’ve left it here pretty much as it was originally written (albeit with a great deal of tweaking of that rubbish that Word considers to be HTML output) with only adjustments for the passage of time and the replacement of Alan’s contact details:

BADGERS CRICKET CLUB

New Members 2014

Badgers Cricket Club has been established for over 50 years and is looking for new members for the coming season

The Badgers are a wandering side with a well-established fixture list mainly against village sides in the Surrey area. Most of the fixtures are within a 15 mile radius of Dorking and are played once over the weekend (nearly all Sunday fixtures these days)

Whilst keen to win we have always mixed a competitive day’s cricket with a fun day out for the players and their families.

We offer something for all types of players:

  • Youngsters who are looking for their first regular senior cricket
  • League players looking for a more relaxed environment to show off their skills and
  • ex-players who perhaps hung up their boots too early

If you would like to know more about us then please contact the current club captain, Mark Gordon, on 01737 360253

Alan Tickner

Alternatively, if you prefer, you could instead.
