Badgers Cricket Club – What’s New Archive 2006

This page provides a repository of all the What’s New entries for 2006, in reverse chronological order. If you really have a desire for the older or newer entries, then the links below will get you access to all those that I’ve saved. They are unlikely to be of any great interest, but do provide a picture of how the site has developed over the twenty-four and a half years it has been here. Please bear in mind that links to external sites may have atrophied over time and thus you may see ‘not found’ or similar errors when trying to follow them, especially the further back in time the link was first created.

As ever my personal disorganisation has meant that no updates have been achieved in over a month since the season finished, but with the dinner and dance looming in less than a week I’ve had to get my finger out. However, Darrell and I have not yet finished checking the data in the database against the scorebook, so some of what is here now is subject to change.

The final game at Ockley did go ahead, despite my stated fears about the weather, and you can find full details on the results page along with the pertinent elements from the scorecard. I’ve not managed to write a match report for that game, or the earlier one at Blindley Heath, but Graham Ward has kindly provided one for the Headley game.

Since this is likely to be the last change before the dinner and dance, I’ve also uploaded draft versions of some of the overall summary pages, so you can now find historical results for 2006 along with a skeletal season report plus the personal pages have been updated with all the 2006 performances and partnerships. The season report and personal pages will be updated further once the destination of the various cups has been revealed at the dinner. See you all there.

Despite the previous week’s game with Ottershaw being called off on the Thursday night, I’ve still not managed to write up the weekend before’s visit to Blindley Heath, and here we are at Sunday morning again, hoping that the weather doesn’t ruin today’s visit to Ockley. However, you can find full details of the Blindley Heath and Headley games on the results page along with the pertinent elements from both scorecards.

The only other changes are that Graham Ward spotted an error in his own bowling line at Seven Sports, so he has now been correctly credited with a wicket where previously none was shown, and Patrick’s details have been added to the club officers page since he has been appointed by the committee as Honorary Secretary until the next AGM.

9 Sep 2006

PLEASE NOTE that today’s game with Ottershaw has been called off, and we were unable to arrange another fixture at the short notice given (but thanks to Graham Ward for trying).

I am still running behind (do I need to say that, it seems to be a permanent state of affairs) so I’ve not even managed to enter the scorecard details for last week’s close finish at Blindley Heath, but I have just finished the match report for the week before (in something of a rush, so my apologies if it is riddled with mistakes). Full details of that visit to Woking & Horsell can be found on the results page along with the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

The chances of my getting caught up this weekend are slim, because Darrell and I have both managed to wangle games for Kings Langley even at such short notice and we are off to Lords to watch Middlesex play Sussex tomorrow. However, I hope to get things up to date before next Sunday’s visit to Headley and whilst on the subject of fixtures you might care to note that I’ve corrected the error in the Ockley entry and it is a Sunday game (further thanks to Graham Ward who spotted that particular mistake).

26 Aug 2006

PLEASE NOTE that tomorrow’s game with Reigate Pilgrims has been cancelled and replaced with a visit to Woking & Horsell instead. See the fixtures page for details, including a map link.

I’ve struggled to find the motivation to update the site and write the match report for what may be one of the Badgers worst ever losses, but the need to post details of the change of fixture this weekend has forced my hand, so here we are. Full details of last week’s visit to Maori-Oxshott can be found on the results page along with the match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

19 Aug 2006

I really should have finished writing the match report for the previous game during the afternoon off triggered by last Sunday’s game at Reigate Cavaliers being rained off, but a badly bruised ankle sustained playing for Kings Langley the day before (hit by the second ball of an innings good enough to make the Watford Observer’s honours board for the week) and a handful of domestic demands put a kink into that plan. With tomorrow’s game at Oxshott in danger of going the same way and the rain tipping down outside preventing Darrell from turning out for Kings Langley today, I finally found the time, and inclination, to put fingers to the keyboard and dredge up a handful of memories of our return to Englefield Green.

Full details can be found on the results page along with the much delayed match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

7 Aug 2006

I’m running a little behind, so just pretend that this was posted Sunday morning rather than Monday evening, and I’ll be back later in the week with the full story of our return to Englefield Green after a nineteen year hiatus.

Partnership records are like buses, you wait ages for one and three come along at once!! Despite, or perhaps because of, one of the worst ever top order batting performances in Badgers’ history, last Sunday’s game with Ham & Petersham saw both the sixth and tenth wicket records tumble. Full details can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

29 Jul 2006

Another conference arranged fixture this week, at Seven Sports in Chertsey, but a much more evenly balanced game. Full details can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

23 Jul 2006

PLEASE NOTE that we do have a fixture for later today – against Seven Sports at Abbeyfields Rec. in Chertsey – full details of which can be found on the fixtures page.

A return to normality the week before last, with a typical friendly village cricket match at Woldingham Village, competitive but played in the right spirit. This was followed by the Badgers first evening game in some time – a twenty over game against Tadworth – and the first tour to anywhere other than the Cotswolds for over twenty years, including a Saturday game against Ibberton – a small village near Blandford Forum with little more than a pub and a Post Office. Full details can be found on the results page along with a match report for Woldingham (with thanks to Darrell), a report for Tadworth and another for Ibberton, plus the pertinent elements from the scorecards.

1 Jul 2006

PLEASE NOTE that Sunday’s game with Caterham has been cancelled due to the opposition not being able to raise a team, and the CCC failing to find us a new challenge.

Full details of last weekend’s game at Croygas can be found on the results page along with a match report (kindly penned by Graham Ward since I didn’t feel I could write objectively about a game in which my integrity had been impugned so vociferously) and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

23 Jun 2006

PLEASE NOTE that Sunday’s game has been moved forward to start at midday.

22 Jun 2006

We have a game for this coming weekend – and more importantly eleven players willing to play despite the clash with England’s World Cup game – a Sunday fixture at Croygas (let’s hope we are playing their proper second XI this time). Full details, including a map link, can be found on the fixtures page but keep in mind that the game may be moved forward, starting earlier than the normal two o’clock, to try and accommodate those that would like to spend the tea interval gawking at the footie.

There was no game at Epsom Methodists last Saturday, due to a lack of players on our part, but I did manage to complete the match report for Tadworth and Darrell and I were able to help Kings Langley III to another win which took them to the top of their division in the Herts League, so it wasn’t all bad.

16 Jun 2006

PLEASE NOTE that Saturday’s game with Epsom Methodists has had to be cancelled, since we were unable to get a team out this week, due to fifteen players being unavailable. Normal service will be resumed next week

Full details of last weekend’s game at Tadworth can be found on the results page along with the pertinent elements from the scorecard, but the match report isn’t finished yet and I felt it important to get notification of tomorrow’s cancellation on line as quickly as possible.

10 Jun 2006

Full details of last weekend’s game at Stoke D'Abernon can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

4 Jun 2006

Full details of last weekend’s game at Dormansland can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

With the cancellation of the Merrow game due to the weather I’ve finally found a little time to add some images to the photo gallery, albeit not as many as I’d hoped.

21 May 2006

A very unsatisfactory Conference arranged fixture for our second match of the season last weekend, with a damp squib of an ending. Full details can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard. If you view the scorecard you’ll probably notice that the result is not expressed properly since my code was no more impressed with the conclusion to the game than I was!! I will look at coding a fix, but I don’t have time to mess with something quite so fundamental just at the moment.

12 May 2006

PLEASE NOTE that there has been a change of opponent, and thus venue, for tomorrow’s match. See the fixtures page for full details.

The 2006 season got underway last weekend with as close a finish to the game against Broadbridge Heath as you could wish for. Full details can be found on the results page along with a match report and the pertinent elements from the scorecard.

Whilst struggling with the match report I was also inspired, as a displacement activity, to produce a report for the AGM which you can find on the news page.

Oh, and whilst I doubt that anyone is much bothered at this remove, I’ve finally managed to finish editing Graham Ward’s belated 2005 match reports, with the missing piece of the puzzle being for Dormansland. With the exception of the Epsom Methodists game, all the remaining missing reports are down to me, with a couple of them started but nowhere near complete, so they may never see the light of day as I intend to concentrate on keeping up to date with this season’s games.

30 Apr 2006

With the first fixture of the new season looming, just a week away, I have been forced to post this incomplete update simply in order to get the fixtures page up to date so that everyone can find out what is going on. Please also note that the final pre-season indoor net is slated for this coming Thursday, so if you’ve been putting off attendance because the season was too far away then the last chance saloon beckons.

I have been trying to get everything in order ready for the start of the season, but so far the fixture list changes have prompted a full review of the links page and the impending final indoor net has triggered some deletions and updates to the news page but there is no report on the AGM, only a skeletal report of the dinner and dance, not even a skeletal review of the pre-season bowling and curry evening, and no extension of the match reports for last season (not even the one that is just waiting for the blue pencil). I have also been given some photographs that I’d like to get adjusted and posted, and no doubt there are other things I ought to have sorted out ready for the 2006 season, but what we have here will have to do for the time being.

22 Feb 2006

In the (rather short, from my point of view) run up to the dinner and dance I ran out of time to post the usual partial season report (whilst just managing to scrape together the paper version for distribution to all attendees), and ever since that evening updating the site simply hasn’t come to the top of the ‘things to do’ pile, so as usual I’m left to grovel about the length of the hiatus, and indeed for the rather incomplete nature of this belated update, which is prompted by tonight’s AGM.

I’d like to offer my (very belated) thanks to Darrell for his help with the chore of checking the scorebooks against what has been entered into the database, which was harder work this year than normal due to a number of really badly written up scorecards. However, with his assistance I am able to publish the season report along with the historical results for 2005. In addition the personal pages have been updated with all the 2005 performances and partnerships as well as the batting, bowling and fielding statistics.

I’ve signally failed in trying to back-fill the missing match reports, but have found the time to edit two of three reports penned by Graham Ward, those for Blindley Heath and Leigh, but I still need to do the same for the Dormansland report that Graham supplied many months ago, and I’m missing far too many, especially for games that I played in but simply failed to write up.

There also ought to be news items for tonight’s AGM and the goings on at the dinner and dance, but if I’m going to get to the AGM myself then those things will have to wait for another day.
