Affiliated to the CCC

This page provides a repository of all the archived news items for 2015, in reverse chronological order. If you really have a desire for the older or newer entries, then the links below will get you access to all those that I’ve saved over the twenty-three and a half years that the site has been in existence.

Badgers’ dinner – a Chip(stead) off the old block

A second visit to Chipstead Golf Club for the annual presentation dinner was something of a disappointment on the culinary front but that didn’t stop the club celebrating the passage of another successful season. For the record, the trophies and mementos (for the less regular recipients of the sundry cups), found their way to:

BattingBill Jenkins220 runs @ 110.0
BowlingRob Knew23 wickets @ 11.8
FieldingMark Gordon12 catches
CaptainsMark Gordon
Frank ButtMatt Smith(for his 95 at Ripley)
‘Wang Fu’Lauren & Ben
‘Timekeeping’ AwardAlec Cochrane

Mark’s speech was the now customary meander through the events of the season and evinced the usual hilarity, especially when Amy was coerced into presenting her old man with his own cup (starting with a cry of “you can’t give it to yourself”) – a process for which Mark had prepared a set of cue cards for his daughter to read aloud.

Indoor Nets Season 2015

This season’s indoor nets, thanks to the good offices of Ricky Cibardo, are back at The Cricket Centre in Plough Lane, Wallington – and will take place on Thursday nights between 19:00 (7pm) and 20:00 (8pm) starting on 19th February and running for ten weeks (which makes 23rd April the last evening).

I have included the exact location of the centre on the 2015 version of the Google Map showing the grounds we play on or for those that prefer more traditional maps you can use this one of the area in Streetmap.

AGM – 2 Feb 2015

Just eleven Badgers made it to Mark’s house for the 2015 version of the Annual General Meeting, and given that two of those were non-members and one a junior, we barely scraped together a quorum. The absence of Chairman Al due to illness meant that your correspondent got to play at being chair of the meeting, which no doubt did not help things to move along. I will leave the gory detail of the meeting for the minutes and simply offer a (very) concise overview of proceedings.

Pat stood down as Treasurer and the lack of volunteers meant that Mark has ended up taking on the role, which seemed like an unnecessary burden on one person to me. The rest of the officers stood for re-election whilst the meeting also voted Matt Smith and Ricky Cibardo into membership. There was considerable discussion around the problem of collecting monies owed, which was one of the main reasons for Pat resigning his post, but no concrete decisions were reached other than that no bonus ball winnings would be paid to those whose entry fee had not been received, with the situation being treated as a rollover.

The Treasurer’s final act was to report a fair sized loss but with sundry mitigating circumstances it was decided to leave both subs (£30) and match fees (£7) unchanged. The Hon. Sec. distributed the fixture list, which was not finalised due to the need to make a decision on tour weekend. The meeting agreed on trying to arrange tour for the weekend of 1st/2nd August (although that has subsequently changed – see the fixtures page for the current status).

The annual presentation dinner will be the same weekend and venue, so Chipstead Golf Club on 14th November and a pre-season BBQ (such a success last year) was proposed for either 18th or 19th April. It was also agreed that the club, via the good offices of the new Treasurer, would seek affiliation with the Surrey Cricket Board, as the benefits of doing so seemed to outweigh the nominal costs.
